FERGUSON, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Police say three people were found shot inside a vehicle during a traffic stop in Ferguson on Sunday afternoon.
According to police, an officer on patrol heard what he believed to be gunshots in the 8300 block of Fairbanks around 4:15 p.m. While investigating, the officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Airport Road. The officer gave chase and stopped the vehicle on Carson and South Dade.
The vehicle was found to be occupied by four people, three of whom had been struck by gunfire.
Police say one of the occupants had been involved in an altercation which escalated to shots being fired at the vehicle. At least one occupant returned fire, and the vehicle fled the scene. It was at this point that the officer observed and pulled over the speeding vehicle.
The shooting victims were transported to an area hospital. One victim is listed in critical condition, but none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
During an initial investigation, officers recovered two handguns.
Police are conducting multiple interviews, and the investigation is ongoing.
