(KMOV) – Police have identified a woman who was killed in a wreck involving a semi truck on Interstate 44 in south St. Louis Monday.

Authorities say Morgan Ciota, 20, was driving in the eastbound lanes of the interstate near Jefferson around 11 a.m. when she hit an icy patch and lost control of her vehicle.

A woman driving a semi truck saw Ciota’s vehicle spinning and tried to avoid hitting her by changing lanes. The semi then slid into Ciota’s car, causing it to strike a guard rail.

Ciota was pronounced dead at the scene.

All lanes of eastbound I-44 were closed from Grand to Jefferson for about two hours as crews worked to clean up the scene.

The accident happened as dropping temperatues kept many roads in bad condition a day after the St. Louis area received about 10 inches of snow.
