(KMOV) – Police continue to investigate after a text message prompted schools in Roxana, Ill. to be placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon.

Roxana Community Unit School District 1 Superintendent Deb Kreutztrager said a student inside Roxana High School texted a family member about shots being fired at the school in the 400 block of N. Chaffer.

The family member called police area authorities took action immediately to initiate lockdown procedures at both the high school and middle school.

At 2 p.m., all students were given the all clear and returned to their regular schedules.

Roxana Police Chief Will Cunningham told News 4 he worked until about 1 a.m. Wednesday as part of an investigation.
