BELLVILLE, Ill (KMOV.com) – An armed suspect was arrested after being seen near a Belleville elementary school on Tuesday.

The Belleville Police department and several other agencies responded to a report of an armed suspect near Union School and Lindenwood University.

According to witnesses, a white male wearing all black clothing and carrying what appeared to be a rifle, handgun and knife was seen behind the elementary school.Union was placed on lockdown and Lindenwood University was notified of the threat.

Police said the suspect, a 15-year-old, had a weapon when he was taken into custody just after 2:30 p.m.  No injuries were reported, and no shots were fired.

Police confirmed the suspect did have a knife, though the firearms in question were pellet guns.

The incident is still being investigated. News 4 will bring you additional information as it is released.
