(KMOV) – A woman is in police custody after she was caught attempting to use stolen checks, credit cards in St. Charles and Creve Coeur.
Police say on January 24, a woman, believed to be in her 30s to 40s, rifled through a wallet left in vehicle parked at Priory School as the victim was attending a parent-teacher conference.
The suspect then used the stolen credit card to purchase cosmetics and hair products from a Weldon Springs Walgreens.
Moments later, security cameras captured the suspect entering the First National Bank of St. Louis on O’Fallon Road wearing a different shirt and jacket. Once in the bank, she allegedly used the victim’s identification to cash a check worth $6,500 from the victim’s business account.
“It does seem like she had a plan of what she wanted to do once she got these IDs. I don’t believe at all that she particularly targeted the particular school or the particular individual. That was just a random act,” said Detective Michael Yarbrough with the St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department.
After watching surveillance video, authorities believe the suspect used the products purchased at Walgreens to change her appearance to look more like the victim seen on the stolen Missouri driver’s license.
St. Charles County authorities believe this is was the only vehicle the suspect broke into.
Anyone with information regarding this suspect is asked to call the Creve Coeur Police Department at 314-872-2543 or St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department at 636-949-3020.
