(KMOV.com) -- A pedestrian was struck and killed early Sunday morning on interstate 44 at Bowles Avenue near the Meramec River Bridge. Reports indicate that the accident occurred just before 1:00 a.m.
Police say that the victim, 44-year-old Mona Moynihan, was attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of the interstate on foot when a Ford Explorer struck her. Moynihan was then struck by two more vehicles, a Nissan Versa and a Volkswagen GTI.
Moynihan was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.
Reports indicate that the drivers were not injured in the accident. All three vehicles were towed with minor damage.
Missouri Highway Patrol investigators were at the scene for close to four hours clearing the roadway and working to figure out what lead up to the accident. Investigators have not determined why Moynihan was walking on the interstate.
