Police are looking for thieves who allegedly stole more than three tons worth of copper wire from a stone quarry in Cape Girardeau County.

Police say that on New Year’s Eve, 6000 pounds of copper wire vanished from a stone quarry in the southern Missouri County. Estimates say that the copper is worth almost $20,000.

Police have not released any suspect descriptions or any other information.

Missouri law requires a photo ID to sell back more than $50 of copper at a time.
