(KMOV.com) -- News 4 on Monday reported the search was on for an escaped sex offender who walked away from a halfway house on July 8.

On Tuesday, News 4 wanted to know how it could happen.

“I’ve watched what my daughter’s gone through and I can’t imagine another child living through this,” said the mother of one of Frederick Buettner’s victims.

Buettner served nearly nine years in prison after being convicted of predatory criminal sexual assault involving his daughter.

Several different police departments on Tuesday were looking for him after a spokesperson with the Department of Corrections says he simply cut off an ankle monitor that was used for electronic monitoring.

He was only six weeks into his parole.
