IMPERIAL, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Police and homicide detectives are investigating after a woman's body was found near Imperial, Mo. on Sunday morning.

Officers responded to a report of an unresponsive female lying in a field near Butler Valley and Antonia Valley around 8:30 a.m.

Deputies found a deceased woman, described as a white female with brown, shoulder-length hair. Police say she was found wearing a red and black shirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.

Authorities say the 34-year-old victim was a Jefferson County resident.

The Major Case Squad has been activated, according to authorities, and the death is being treated as a homicide.

Police have not released the woman's name, pending notification of family.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on the deceased is asked to contact the Major Case Squad at 636-797-6234.
