Airport Mix-up

(KMOV.com) – News 4 has uncovered video that might suggest another reason for the mix-up that resulted in a Southwest flight mistakenly landing at the wrong airport.

The video is a bird’s eye view- the same view the two Southwest airlines pilots had as they descended into Branson last weekend.

The two airports are just seven miles apart and look very similar.

From the air, both of them clearly visible and the video shows what that view was like from about 10 miles away.

Several passengers on board that flight said the landing was very abrupt and the smell of burning rubber was very strong.

The pilot you see in the video is a flight instructor in Missouri named Matt Zeiman.

He says the fact the pilots managed to stop the commercial airliner in time, is actually an incredible feat.

“When they realized their mistake, they had to be panicking.  There’s nowhere to go,” he said. “I have no idea how they got it stopped before the end of that runway.”
