HAZELWOOD, MO (KMOV.com) -- A good Samaritan awoke an off-duty Hazelwood police officer after seeing his carport was on fire Friday.

Police said a man was driving past the house in the 7400 block of Foxfield Drive when he saw the fire. He then ran to the front door and woke up the officer.

The Hazelwood Fire Department was called to scene after being called by a neighbor. When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the carport.

Officials said the fire spread to the kitchen before they could put out the flames. Firefighters said they believe the fire started in the engine of the parked car.

No injuries were reported.
