(KMOV) -- Police say a woman was struck and killed while crossing the street near Forest Park Friday morning.
Authorities say Charlotte Cunningham, 61, was crossing the street in the 600 block of Skinker Boulevard around 6 a.m. when she was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
The victim was transported to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
“She was leaving around the same time I usually leave for work,” said Dorchester resident Sara Mendelow.”
Mendelow and other area residents who frequently walk in the area said the street can be dangerous at certain times.
“I used to park on that side and it’s a little scary in the morning, especially around the 9 to 5 work period,” she said.
“You got a lot of joggers, bike riders, and a lot of traffic,” said pedestrian Ronald Wells. “A lot of traffic, People speed up and down this street all the time.”
Authorities did not say if the driver involved stayed at the scene.
Investigators and accident reconstruction crews were on the scene all morning and Skinker was blocked in both directions. All lanes have since reopened.
