(KMOV.com) -- Police and bomb crews responded to the courthouse in downtown St. Louis Monday morning in reference to a suspicious bag that turned out to be harmless.
Authorities report the bag was left near the steps of St. Louis Circuit Court courthouse on 11th Street. Police had to close a section of 11th Street while a bomb squad investigated the scene. Crews were able to locate the bag without incident. They later determined the bag did not contain anything suspicious.
Turns out a homeless man left his bag near the building and walked away. Police held the man in a squad car while a bomb squad used an X-ray machine to examine the bag.
No buildings were evacuated.
Once the bag was found to be harmless, it was given back to the man and he was released.
