(KMOV) – Officials say faulty street lamps may have contributed to the death of a woman who was killed after she and a man were hit by a pickup truck Sunday night in north St. Louis.
Police say the victims were crossing the 2400 block of N. Grand near N. Market around 9:20 p.m. when they were struck.
The woman, identified as 56-year-old Linda Midyett, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 47-year-old man she was with was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
A witness told police the driver of the truck fled west on N. Market after the crash.
News 4 went to the scene Monday afternoon and found three to four street lamps were out at the intersection.
St. Louis Streets Dept. Director Todd Waeltermann confirms they had gotten a report Friday that lights at the same intersection had gone out. But crews say they were working when they went to check it out.
Waeltermann says the faulty lights could have contributed to Midyett's death.
