(KMOV) -- A small family store is gaining a lot of attention in north St. Louis for bringing healthy eating options to the neighborhood.

“We don’t throw anything away,” said Naser Ansari of Regal Meat Market. “Everything is selling. Bananas are selling like Little Debbie hot cakes.”

The small store is located at the corner of Oriole and Thekla and has been a fixture in the Walnut Park neighborhood for 16 years. The reason the store was the owner realized the nearest grocery store is a 10-minute drive, so they decided to change the way they do business.

Ansari says he wants people who come here to pick up more than just a bag of chips or candy.

The owner says he has been recognized by the city and is expecting a certificate from the mayor within the next few weeks.
