ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV) – A Newspaper delivery man for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch is being credited for waking up a St. Charles family whose apartment went up in flames early Wednesday morning.

Authorities said Todd Barrow was on his newspaper route when he saw flames coming from a second-floor unit of the Fox Hills Apartments in the 6100 block of Fox Chase Drive.

Barrow told police the fire was near a deck and the flames were shooting up the siding to the roof.

Authorities said Barrow, 49, banged on the apartment’s door, but no one initially answered. Eventually a teenage boy, his mother and two teen girls opened up the door and ran from the apartment.

Fire officials said Barrow used his cell phone to dial 911 as he alerted residents in nearby apartments.

Firefighters arrived to the scene and quickly got the one-alarm out.

No injuries were reported.

Authorities said they are investigating the fire, but are not considering it suspicious.
