AUGUSTA, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- One person was killed in a two-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle and a van in St. Charles County Sunday afternoon.

The Missouri Highway Patrol believes speed was a factor that caused a motorcycle and a van to collide on Highway 94 near Augusta, Mo. around 1:30 p.m.

Police say Duy Khang Le, 22, and passenger Jacquelyn Schell, 21, were thrown from his Suzuki 750 when it collided with a van at the intersection of westbound Highway 94 and Heger Lane.

Officers believe Le was speeding and attempted to make a turn onto Heger Lane when Hoang Cuong, 60, driving the van, was unable to yield, colliding with Le.

Le was pronounced dead at the scene. Schell was taken to an area hospital with moderate injuries. Both riders were said to be wearing safety devices.

Cuong was not injured in the wreck, he was wearing a seat belt.
