(KMOV.com) – A mother is outraged after she was not informed in a timely manner that her son had walked out of the pre-school he attends.
Anastasia Ewing’s 4-year-old son Caison snuck out of Griffith Elementary School on the morning of Sept. 17. Ten minutes after he left school, a good Samaritan found him several blocks away.
“We have procedures in place and incidents like this are never something we want to have happen,” said Jana Short of the Ferguson-Florissant School District.
Ewing said she was not notified about what took place until hours later. The district said Ewing was not informed because of miscommunication.
“This was a case where a classroom teacher thought the principal was informing the parent and the principal thought the teacher was informing the parent,” Shortt said.
To make sure something like this does not happen again the district is doubling the number of head counts that teachers perform and locking perimeter gates. The district is also requiring teachers to call parents if their child goes missing.
