HERCULANEUM, Mo. (KMOV.com) – More than 7000 jobs may be created in Jefferson County over the next 20 years.

A new river port in Herculaneum is opening next week. The river port is scheduled to get more than $400, 000 to improve infrastructure.

The project goal is to turn an 18 acre property, previously owned by Doe Run, into an industrial park. Doe Run has agreed to tear down its lead smelting plant in an effort to make the area safe for development.
