(KMOV) – Police in the Metro East issued a dozen charges for an East St. Louis man for the alleged abuse of four children between the ages of 11 and 14.
East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Floore said he’s glad Marlon Coleman, 38, is off the streets now. Coleman was charged with sexually assaulting his step-children at a residence on the 1800 block of Wilford.
Coleman was charged with nine counts of predatory criminal sex assault, aggravated sex abuse and solicitation of a child. He turned himself in to authorities on October 22.
The abuse took place over a number of months and the kids, Chief Floore said, were too afraid of Coleman to come forward.
“You are a father and they believe in you and trust in you and you’re supposed to protect them and yet you are the perpetrator, that’s terrible,” said Floore.
Coleman is now being held on a $2 million bond.
“We are glad the state’s attorney charged him so that these babies can get some rest and be safe,” Floore said.
The State’s Attorney’s Children Justice Unit and East St. Louis Police worked together on this case.
