(KMOV.com) – Many people in Ferguson are angry after Ferguson police released a video allegedly showing Michael Brown, Jr. stealing a box of cigars from a store.
“It pissed ‘em off. It pissed ‘em off and for one reason, because it muddied the waters,” said Ferguson resident Reggie Harris.
Police released the surveillance video at the same time they released the name of police officer who shot Brown.
“What he did was enrage the community more by releasing the name and saying ‘hey here’s the name, but we’re going to discredit Mike Brown at the same time,” said business owner Charles Davis.
Ferguson Chief of Police Tom Jackson said he released the video because of requests from media outlets.
“You asked for it. I held it as long as I could,” Jackson said.
Many protestors told News 4 they said it felt different in Ferguson compared to the rest of the week.
“We’re talking to each other about how much we love our children and how we want our children to thrice and survive in this world,” St. Charles resident Whitney Raidt said.
Others however said the atmosphere could grow uneasy again.
“A lot of people haven’t seen that video yet, and I fell like once they see it, it’s going to be a problem,” a protestor said.
