(KMOV.com) – The person in charge of parks in Collinsville announced his resignation Friday.

Terry Wilson said he was stepping down as Executive Director of the Collinsville Area Recreation District (CARD) in a letter to the district's board.

Wilson cited decreasing revenue at a time when he believes the opposite is needed as one of the reasons for his resignation. The change is due to several votes to lower taxes that pay for the parks, which take effect May 1.

“I firmly believe that the task of running this district would have been very difficult with the existing funding – but doable, and I was up to the challenge,” Wilson wrote in the letter. “With the added burden of losing  funding due to the passage of the referendums, running  the district in the manner in which I believe the citizens deserve is impossible and sets the district up for failure.”

Wilson also cited his relationship with the board saying there was “fundamental disconnect in management style and substance between myself and the board.”

Wilson had been on the job since 2012. The CARD board will meet March 10 to select an interim replacement.
