FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV) -- A man faces charges after law enforcement in five St. Louis-area counties say he took them on a wild ride while he was behind the wheel of a stolen truck.
Jonathan Jacobi, 21, was charged Tuesday with first-degree tampering and resisting or interfering with arrest.
According to court documents, Jacobi stole a Ford truck from gas station in Potosi Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday, a friend of the victim, Colby Benson, spotted it and called police. The friend then followed the truck into De Soto in Jefferson County.
An officer responded to the scene and attempted to follow the truck, but he hit an icy patch and totaled the patrol car. The officer suffered minor injuries and for a time, the Jacobi.
Authorities said Jacobi on Monday stole $200 worth of gas in New Florence and in Hermann.
Police tried to chase him down, but Jacobi continued into Franklin and Gasconade counties. Only after officers laid down spike strips did they finally catch him.
According to police, Jacobi had previous warrants out for his arrest for allegedly stealing vehicles in the Hermann area. In that case, the car was found burned.
Additional charges could be filed.
