(KMOV) – A 29-year-old man faces charges after police say he stole a school bus from the Northwoods School District in Salem, Mo.

Donald Francis was charged in Dent County with tampering with a stolen vehicle.

A Franklin County deputy tells News 4 he was at an auto repair shop in the 400 block of Walls Ford Road Monday when he noticed the school bus parked outside.

Thinking it odd the bus was so far away from the school district, the deputy asked a worker about it. The employee told the deputy the school district asked Francis to repair the bus, so he drove it to his father’s repair shop.

Authorities say the deputy ran the bus’s plates and VIN numbers, both of which showed the bus as stolen.

Francis was then taken into custody.

Additional information was not immediately available.
