Man charged in attempted armed robbery in Caseyville

(KMOV.com) – A Caseyville man has been accused of robbing a store and attempting to kill its owner.

Phillip W. Smith was charged six counts of aggravated robbery, one count of armed robbery, and one count of attempted murder. The charges were filed Saturday. Authorities said Smith attempted to rob a business in Caseyville Thursday, shot the owner, then fled on foot.

Police caught Smith later that day. Smith is being held in the St. Clair County Jail.
