O'FALLON, Ill. (KMOV) -- O'Fallon police are asking for the public's help locating a man who  attempted to return unsold items at a Walmart store on Tuesday.

Authorities said the suspect entered the store with a receipt which he used to locate items in the store.

Police said he then tried to return the items he just shopped for using the receipt as a fraudulent proof of purchase.

Loss prevention officers were attempting to detain the suspect when he pushed an officer to the ground before running out of the store, police said.

Surveillance cameras captured the man running from the store. There was no word on if he fled the scene on foot or drove away.

Anyone with information pertaining to the suspect or this case, please contact Ptl. Diane Coppotelli at 618-624-4545.
