(KMOV) – On Thursday, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported one person died during the Christmas holiday counting period.

The period runs from 6 p.m. Tuesday, December 24 to 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, December 25.

The lone fatality occurred on December 24 on Midway Road just north of Cave Road in Miller County.

Kenneth E. Parsons, 63, of Osage Beach died when the vehicle he was driving crossed the center line and left the roadway. It struck an embankment, became airborne and struck a tree.

Parsons, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

There was a passenger in Parsons’ vehicle who was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities say she was also not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

During 2013’s counting period, MHP investigated 53 traffic crashes, which included 18 injuries and the one fatality.

In addition, troopers arrested eight people for driving while intoxicated. There were no boating crashes or drownings during that time.
