(KMOV.com) -- A woman who had given thousands of dollars to a roofer who did no work has a new roof thanks to a local contractor.
In Feb., Mara Couch contacted News 4 about a small-time roofer who cashed her checks but never did any of the work.
Couch said she paid contractor Eric Mack $3,600 to start on repairs in August of 2012.
Couch’s roof was in terrible shape and she could not afford a new one after paying Mack.
Kerry Lewis from Lane House Construction saw the story on News 4 and wanted to help Couch. Lewis surprised Couch with a new roof, plywood deck and gutters.
Along with the roof, deck and gutters, Lane House Construction provided Couch with waiver liens and certificates of insurance.
Lane House Construction warns against contractors that demand money up front and against contractors that do not provide consumer protections.
