(KMOV.com) — A long-time St. Louis company says its planning a $30 million expansion, and hiring at least 50 new employees.

Watlow Electric is looking to renovate its headquarters on Lackland Road in Maryland Heights and build a new research and development center.

The company says it’s always working on new technology for semiconductors as well as medical and foodservice equipment.

“It’s very exciting for us and we think it’s very exciting for our team members to give them the opportunity to have a topnotch facility that will help us maintain and grow our leadership position,” said Steve Desloge with Watlow.

St Louis County plans to offer the company up to $4 million in tax breaks.

The county council votes on that Tuesday night.

If approved, the company says it plans to break ground fall 2014.
