(KMOV) -- A failed business venture now has one local grocer asking customers to help keep them afloat.

Local Harvest Grocery said its trying to raise $120,000 to stay open for business.

They say the financial troubles stem from a failed expansion in Kirkwood.

The store is asking customers to buy gift cards which they can redeem at a later date, just to keep money coming in.

“The response has been incredible we've had a huge outpour on social media and from the media in general and our customers,” said Anne Tkach of Local Harvest.

The owners would not answer what would happen if the company does not meet the goal of $120,000.
