(KMOV.com) -- Kirkwood police are investigating after a library patron and 13-year-old girl reported separate incidents of an adult male approaching teenage girls on Wednesday afternoon.

A patron at the Oak Bend Library in Oakland, Mo. told staff members about a suspicious interaction between a teenage girl and adult male in his twenties around 4:30 p.m. The library staff reported the incident to Kirkwood police, who began investigating.

The second incident happened near the Kirkwood Public Library, located at 140 East Jefferson, around 4:40 p.m. 13-year-old girl told police she was walking home when an adult male in a vehicle tried to engage her in conversation. The girl reportedly ignored the man, and he later drove away.

After speaking with witnesses, authorities say they found similarities between the men described in the two incidents.

The man was described as possibly Middle-Eastern, with dark hair and glasses, and standing between 5'03" and 5'07" tall. Authorities said the man's vehicle is a newer model, red or maroon Toyota Venza.

Kirkwood police said an investigation is ongoing. Police suggested parents tell their children not to respond if approached by a stranger, then later report the incident to an adult.
