(KMOV) -- A Kirkwood City councilman is pushing against a project to upgrade city hall which will include at least $50,000 worth of lighting.

“How much do you need to spend? Especially for something like lights,” Gerry Biedenstein Kirkwood City Councilman said.

Biedenstein was the only council member to vote against the project.

The lighting scheme is set to highlight the historic building's features and is part of a $500,000 aesthetic overhaul.

Kirkwood Mayor Art McDonnell says the upgrades will help preserve the historic site and draw more residents to community events.
