Illinois government buildings participating in 'lights out' Earth Hour event

(KMOV.com) -- Some people across the world are going to turn off their house lights for one hour in an effort to raise awareness about protecting the planet and the state of Illinois will be participating.

The event is part of Earth Hour 2014 and Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is encouraging residents to participate.

Quinn said many state facilities will also take part in the event.

The "lights out" event takes place from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
