(KMOV) – Illinois State Police say icy roads are to blame for at least two dozen wrecks in two Metro-East counties on Thursday.

Trooper Calvin Dye told News 4 Madison County has seen 19 accidents, while five others happened in St. Clair County.

According to Dye, most of the wrecks occurred on Interstate 255 and were caused by drivers going too fast.

Police say all hands are on deck, including some members of the SWAT team, to help respond to accidents.
