PONTOON BEACH, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- Illinois Department of Transportation officials say they are concerned about a large sign that is now leaning toward Route 111 in Pontoon Beach.
The sign for the Hen House Restaurant was damaged last week in gusty winds, leaving one of two support columns intact.
A company official in Springfield, Ill. tells News 4 the sign is not in danger of collapsing, and they are working with a contractor to replace it. However, weather conditions have made it unsafe for a tall crane to get near the sign.
IDOT officials say they have been watching the sign every day since last Thursday, making sure it's not a danger to Rt. 111.
"We can only do anything once it gets on state property," said Joe Monroe with IDOT. "We've made it very clear we're concerned, and they understand the liability they're living with every moment they do nothing."
A Hen House representative says they hope to have the sign down and replaced this week.
