MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ill. (KMOV) – Funeral arrangements have been set for an Illinois State Police motorcycle officer who was struck and killed by a semi truck during a traffic stop on Interstate 55 on Monday.

Visitation for Kyle Deatherage will be held Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Triad High School, located at 703 East Highway 40.

The funeral will be held at the school on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Police said Deatherage was conducting a traffic stop on northbound Interstate 55 mile marker 62 when he was struck by a tractor trailer semi-truck.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deatherage, 32, was a motorcycle officer with District 18. He is survived by his two young children and wife, Sarah.

“Trooper Deatherage left a legacy of courage and duty and today he is surrounded by the respects of his fellow officers and by the love of his friends and family,” Illinois State Police Director Hiram Grau said in a statement. “Our hearts are heavy with grief, but they are also strengthened by Trooper Deatherage’s brave calling.”

This is the second death to affect Illinois State Police District 18 in recent months. On September 30, Master Sgt. Bob Price was killed in a boating accident.
