HAZELWOOD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Crews are working to contain a three-alarm fire that broke out at a recycling and waste facility in Hazelwood Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to Republic Services, located on the 6000 block of Byassee Drive, around 4:15 p.m.

The fire appeared to have engulfed an outdoor section of the facility, and crews worked into the night to douse the flames.

The manager of Ameri Gas, a neighboring propane company, said he saw smoke and came to check on storage valves. He said the fire did not appear to pose a threat of spreading to the propane company.

Fire officials have not identified the cause of the blaze.

Republic Services reportedly invested $19 million in renovating its two recycling centers in St. Louis, including the Hazelwood facility.
