(KMOV) – A father is upset after learning his five-year-old daughter was placed on the wrong school bus and claims district officials failed to communicate with him after learning of the mistake.
Eric Walkers said his daughter’s school bus drops her off right in front of their house but when the doors of the bus opened Wednesday afternoon, Phoebe, 5, wasn’t on board.
“The bus driver pretty much said it wasn’t her problem, it was the school’s fault,” Walters said.
Moments later, he went to the school to track down his daughter.
“Your heart stops. You start feeling worse. What happened to my daughter? It’s hard to describe, you don’t know what to think,” Walters said of the experience.
He said nearly 30 minutes passed before they were able to locate Phoebe, who was on another bus heading back to the school.
Walters said he was not happy at how it was handled.
“I was getting madder by the minute because there was no communication with me of what was going on.”
The district released a statement, attributed to the principal saying “We regret the anxiety this situation caused the student's parents…We are investigating this situation and reviewing procedures with our staff and bus drivers."
Walters said his daughter could have gotten off the wrong bus in the wrong neighborhood. The district said younger students are not let off without a responsible person to receive them.
“Yesterday was her fourth day of school and she’s gotten off the bus every day with no parent there. She’s already been dropped off up the street at a different bus stop on Monday,” Walters said.
He said his daughter, Phoebe is taking this in stride and her mother took her to school on Thursday even though she wanted to get back on the bus.
