(KMOV.com) -- Fairmount Park in Collinsville could take a big hit if legislation in Springfield isn’t passed soon.
Representative Jay Hoffman introduced a bill to extend a law that allows gamblers to place bets online through State Race Tracks.
Managers at Fairmount Park say that’s a big slice of the business.
If legislation isn’t passed, administrators fear a shortened season, from 52 racing days to only 10.
“It’d be devastating,” said Lanny Brooks with the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association. “Who can survive only working 10 days a year? And that’s basically what it would be. These horsemen would get to race for 10 days and then they’d have to go somewhere else.”
The bill has to be approved by the general assembly Wednesday for there not to be any repercussions.
