(KMOV) -- FDA regulators have approved a handheld injector containing medication that can reverse heroin overdoses.

The device, called Evzio, works like an EpiPen, which is used to treat severe allergy attacks.

The device is injected into muscle and, once injected, it releases a drug that stops heroin and other opioids from fatally slowing a person’s breathing.

The kit costs about $60 and comes with two prefilled syringes.
