(KMOV.com) -- An elementary school was placed on lockdown after reports of an attempted carjacking in St. Ann on Friday afternoon.

Briar Crest Elementary, located in the 2900 block of Adie Road, was locked down around 2:30 p.m.

St. Louis County and St. Ann police responded to reports of two men attempting to steal a vehicle at knifepoint near the intersection of Adie and Link. The suspects were reportedly unable to steal the vehicle, and fled the scene.

The elementary school's doors were locked for about an hour, then reopened around 3:30 p.m.

Police say an extensive search has ended, but officers are still looking for the suspects.
