ST. CLAIR, Ill. (KMOV) -- The St. Clair State’s Attorney’s Office has filed charges against the driver in a crash that killed one construction worker on Interstate 64 in May.
Michael Jeter, 34, has been charged with four counts of aggravated DUI.
Illinois State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly told News 4 lab tests revealed Jeter had a muscle relaxer and Ambien in his system at the time of the crash.
The crash killed one worker and injured three others as they stood on a roadway striping vehicle on eastbound I-64 near the St. Clair Square Mall on May 22.
Witnesses say the driver was driving erratically and weaving in traffic in the moments leading up to the crash.
Jeter is from West Frankfort, Illinois.
Kelley says Jeter is not currently in custody, but arrangements will be made for his surrender to authorities.
