(KMOV) -- Residents voiced concern over the volume of generators set up next to their downtown St. Louis apartment building.

The loud generators are connected to the YMCA on Locust and a neighboring resident said the noise has been non-stop for two days.

The generators are so loud Craig Buying said he can’t sleep in his own bedroom.

“Now we're sleeping in the living room made a bed out of the couch with pillows and stuff on the floor we've had to do that the last two nights because of the noise,” Buying said.

After speaking with police, Buying said he was told the YMCA had a special permit allowing them to break the city’s noise ordinance.

News 4 is working to get more information on why the generators are there in the first place and if there is a special permit in place.
