MAPLEWOOD, Mo. (KMOV) – Crews were working to fix a water main break caused by cold weather in Maplewood Thursday morning.

Missouri American Water crews responded to the break off Big Bend near Highway 40 around 10 a.m.

Ann Dettmer, a spokesperson with Missouri American Water, said workers not only are fixing breaks as they happen, but are trying to prevent ruptures by replacing old lines.

“It’s really important we get them fixed because yes, they do create ice,” said Detmer. “We have crews working 24-7.”

Last year, Missouri American Water invested $58 million dollars into about 300 projects.
