ST. CHARLES, Mo (KMOV.com) -- There are still millions of pounds of steel sitting in the Missouri River Wednesday night.

MoDOT blasted the westbound Blanchette Bridge Tuesday morning with hundreds of people watching.

The contractor had 24 hours to clear the navigation channel in the river below.

Crews missed the deadline, but MoDOT engineers say barges are still able to get around the steel.

”We’ve been working really closely with the Coast Guard,” said engineer Tom Evers. “We’ve been having some issues with this, we’ve been keeping them on board letting them come down and see what’s going on, there’s not a whole lot of barge traffic going up and down the river so it’s not as concerning to them.“

MoDOT says drivers should not expect any further major delays or closings around the Blanchette Bridge.
