(KMOV.com) – The Illinois Senate may soon consider a bill that would allow cars to be sold on Sunday.

Sunday car sales were banned in 1982 to save car dealers money on payroll and to encourage Illinois residents to go to church.

The bill has the backing of the Federal Trade Commission which said the current law makes it difficult to comparison shop, leading lead to higher prices.

The proposal is currently before the Transportation Committee which could move the measure before the full senate.
