EDWARDSVILLE, Il (KMOV.com) -- According to Edwardsville fire officials, a utility company that was moving phone and power lines as part of a project in the area, hit an underground gas main in the first block of Main Street, causing a leak.
Fire fighters believe the impacted main to be smaller but it is still flowing and there’s no time frame on how long Ameren will take to get the gas shut off in the area.
Gas reportedly did get into the basement of a residence, though officials couldn’t confirm if it was a single family residence or an apartment building.
They did, however, confirm everyone got out the building safely.
