(KMOV) – Police say a convicted felon got his hands on a gun and tried to rob a Ferguson discount store, but was laughed off by the clerk who thought the holdup was joke.

Robert Baker Jr., 26, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm.

According to court documents, Baker walked into the Ferguson Family Dollar store with a loaded .38 revolver and tried to hold the place up. But store clerk did not know whether Baker was serious and initially laughed.

“She just, kind of like, brushed it off, like, ‘Huuuuh? Like, yeah, whatever. Ok’ She just kind of took it like a joke,” said Assistant Manager Aleisha Rhone.

A witness saw Baker come out of the store and pull the revolver from his waistband and put in his pocket.

Ferguson police say they arrested Baker across the street at a nearby McDonalds.

Police say Baker, a convicted felon, had previously been booked for drug possession and larceny.

He is being held in custody on a $15,000 bond.
