(KMOV.com) -- The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office issued a warning Monday to residents involving complaints about a Social Security scam.
Reportedly residents recieve a letter saying Washington politicans stole the cost of living adjustment from Social Security benefits.
The letter says recipients can fill out a form for the Social Security Administration to restore the money for a fee of $18.55.
It offers a credit card form as the only way to pay and says the money is not tax deductible.
Officials warns that resident’s identities could be stolen if they provide the information.
The Social Security Commissioner does not have the authority to issue a cost of living adjustment.
Officials also warn any contribution that is not tax deductible suggests the organization is making a profit.
