(KMOV) -- Cell phone video from a concerned parent shows a school bus in Jefferson County with three kids to a seat and even some in the aisle.
School officials from Northwest District 1 said Wednesday the district had to combine two bus routes with half full buses in order help keep costs down.
“We don’t want the kids to be uncomfortable, but we also need to make sure we’re doing it in a way taxpayers can support,” said Superintendent Paul Ziegler, “I don’t want our taxpayers to see a school bus going down the road with empty seats,. So it’s a balancing act.”
The district said the number of kids on the bus was below the state limit, but realizes there were a large number on the bus. They plan to shift some students to another route to reduce the number on the bus.
